Car 6656 brings the rear of northbound Ravenswood All-Stop that has just left Paulina station. A train of 2600-series cars is approaching from the north, having just left Addison, on their way to the Loop. This picture was taken on a cold, rainy day in November of 1991. Unit 6655-6656 eventually went to the Illinois Railway Museum, after being retired (Photo by Roberto Ayala)

Car 6656 and a train of 2600-series cars pass each other just west of Paulina. Nothing in this photo remains here today: the 6000-series cars have been retired (with 6656 going to IRM) and the 2600s are on the Red and Blue Lines, with 3200s now totally equipping the Ravenswood; the old shepherd's crook station platform lights have been replaced with sodium vapor "shoe box" lights on straighter poles. This picture dates from November of 1991. (Photo by Roberto Ayala)

Car 6003 is seen here on November 29, 1977 at Wilson Shops, already out of service and awaiting to go to Skokie Shops. The shop building, now gone, can be seen in the background. (Photo by Peter Vesic)

Car 6174 was scrapped in December 1978 in-house by the CTA. Cars started to be bid out for scrap shortly thereafter. One of CTA's Orton diesel cranes, S-363, is stripping down the car on this snowy winter day. (Photo by Peter Vesic)

Car 6778 is at Harlem Yard in work service on April 15, 1986. The North-South-assigned cars doubled as work cars when extra work motors were needed. A 2600-series train can been seen in the background, on the right. (Photo by Peter Vesic)

Car 6777 (originally numbered 6339) is in service at Howard on January 31, 1986. The car has just swung around the outside of the yard to turn around and is heading southbound into the station to pick up passengers on its way to Ashland terminal. (Photo by Peter Vesic)

Cars 6201-6202 (seen on the left and right, on their sides) were removed from Skokie Shops on August 26, 1985. The car in the middle may be 6681. (Photo by Peter Vesic)

S-425 leads a 6-car train of a IRM Snowflake Special on April 6, 1986 at the Ashland/63 tail track. The other cars are S-426, 6352-6351, and 6500-6499. Although most 6000s that entered work service retained the paint scheme in which they were retired in (and simply had their work number stenciled on), some like S-425 were repainted in the yellow that was standard for work equipment. Note the double headlights above the door, red markers, and warning beacon. (Photo by Peter Vesic)
