Following a rebuilding in January 1975, 5000-series car 52 emerged from Skokie Shops as car '75 "Paul Revere". Shown at Florence Avenue, Evanston on the Skokie Swift run, '75 was one of three PCC artics repainted in the Bicentennial scheme (only 51 was left out, see below for more). (Photo by Art Peterson)

Car 51 (formally car 5001) sports a variation of the Bicentennial paint scheme at the Skokie Shops on July 14, 1977. Car 51 is unique because with was not given a colonial-era 'name' as the other Bicentennials were; its name banners simply read "Skokie Swift". Therefore, it is the opinion of some that 51 was, technically, not a Bicentennial car. Although the scheme is the same as the red, white, and blue Spirit of Chicago livery it would carry until its retirement in 1985, the presence of name banners and the red stars on either side of the car number clearly put this scheme in the Bicentennial category. We'll let you be the judge. (Photo from the CTA Collection, contributed by Eric Zabelny)

Car 51, assigned to Skokie Swift service, loads passengers at Howard on August 18, 1970. The plexiglas panels divide the Howard platform into different paid areas. At this time, the Skokie and Evanston lines had a higher fare for through riders from the city. The fare differential was paid at an agent booth on the platform. (Collection of Joe Testagrose)
