Car 4443 is at the head of five 4000-series cars, among several others stored in the Skokie Shops Yard in March of 1975, a year and a half after the car were decommissioned from revenue service. Their age and lack of cosmetic maintenance is obvious. (Photo by Gerald H. Landau, Collection of Joe Testagrose)

A four-car fantrip train of 4000-series cars, led by car 4453, sits in the Buena Yard, looking north on August 6, 1972. The Buena Yard is an interchange point with the Milwaukee Road where the CTA's electric freight locomotives pick up their loads. These locomotives run off overhead current, hence the train's use of trolley poles in the yard, which has no third rail. (Photo by Bruno Berzins, Collection of Joe Testagrose)

Turning around for the trip back north to the elevated, car 4453 is loading fantrip passengers on August 6, 1972. Why the blue sign announcing White Sox baseball is on the train is uncertain; it may just be for novelty purposes for the fantrip. Note the overhead wire and latticed poles in the Buena Interchange Yard. (Photo by Bruno Berzins, Collection of Joe Testagrose)

A four-car fantrip of 4000s passes Isabella station, heading north on August 6, 1972. Note the sign indicating that the train will stop at 35th Street for White Sox baseball, probably on the chains simply for fun. (Photo by Bruno Berzins, Collection of Joe Testagrose)

A northbound Evanston Express train, trailed by car 4454, is on its way to Howard and on to suburban Evanston after passing Sedgwick on October 9, 1972. The outside tracks are out of service at this point, though they would occasionally be used for special operations until 1976. (Collection of Joe Testagrose)
