A string of 2600s on the Lake-Dan Ryan route are passing over two suburban Metra commuter trains on March 25, 1992. The bridge, just east of the Clinton station and now replaced with a newer structure, carries "L" trains over the approach to the Ogilvie Transportation Center. The Metra Milwaukee-West Line actually operates parallel and adjacent to the Lake Street "L" for about 10 miles. (Photo by Art Peterson)

Several North-South routings are possible via the "L" or subway. Early in the morning on September 26, 1990, a work train accidentally knocked over several car lengths of third rail in the State Street Subway. It was repaired by the early afternoon, but in the meantime North-South Route trains were rerouted via the Loop, allowing for this encounter of a northbound Englewood-Howard "A" train (right) and a southbound Lake-Dan Ryan "B" train (left) at the Lake/Wabash curve. Car 2602, the second car of the prototype 2600-series unit, has just been recently been delivered to the CTA in this view at Skokie Shops. The car is displaying the Spirit of Chicago destination signs and bears the original Spirit of Chicago livery, as applied to the 2600s, including the car number and RTA decals on the windows.
