After the arrival of the 2200-series cars, the 2000s were regularly run in revenue service in mixed trains with the new stainless steel Budd units. The 2000s were repainted platinum and black to achieve better visual compatibility starting in 1972. Car 2054 (one of the first to be repainted) is seen here coupled to a set of 2200s (mostly out of frame on the left) outside of Skokie Shops near East Prairie Road on August 25, 1972. A two-car Lake-Dan Ryan "A" train, led by car 2063, descends from the 18th Street Connector toward the Cermak-Chinatown station on August 2, 1974. Today, the connector (built in 1969) is nonrevenue trackage; trains from the Dan Ryan Line branch off here into a new subway line to connect to the Howard Line via the State Street Subway.
